Differences - #SLICE2013 14/31

The lunch room is always a whirl of activity. I stand at the computer as kids scan their fingers and go through the lunch line. Usually Alice and Diana come up at one time or another to check in. Today Diana was talking to me while I was trying to scan at the same time my director started to talk to me.

"Could you please stop talking? I am telling a story," Diana said, looking right at my director.

I was a bit speechless, and we both looked at each other and tried not to laugh. Then Diana rested her hands on the top of my belly and began, "Once upon a time..."

I continued scanning and my director was able to check in with someone else.

"They are so different," I eventually said to her after Diana finished her quick story and walked away. "Alice would barely talk to people, and Diana had no problem asking the director of the school to please not talk while she was telling the story."

"I'm mortified," I continued.

And yet, I also love those moments when Diana wants to tell the baby stories and talk to her, that she values the interactions and importance of talk. We'll need to work on when certain comments are appropriate though!

  1. Oh no! Hopefully your Director understands . . . I love that Diana was telling the baby a story! So sweet!
