It's 8:22 PM, and I am just barely turning my computer on for the first time today, something that is very rare. Usually I would have checked email and skimmed for new blog posts first thing in the morning and used my computer for other odds and ends throughout the day. But not today.

Today was filled with...
opening presents first thing in the morning
one at a time, youngest to oldest, just like my parents did it
eating mini-boxes of cereal - a tradition my mom started
beginning a big Lego set with Diana
going to Mass as a family
talking to my parents and a sister
eating enchiladas
the continuation of the Lego set with Diana
a quick nap
more Legos
a movie break as a family
and yet more Lego building (still only on Phase I)
a phone call with another sister
dinner - some of the left-over enchiladas
a keyboard lesson with Alice

In short a fun-filled family day with plenty of reminders of my childhood (the cereal, building Lego sets with my own Dad, reconnecting with a musical side).

Happy Holidays!

  1. Yea for enjoying the holiday, Amanda! Good for you for turning off the technology and spending time with your family. (What did you see at the movies?)

I just got back from NYC. I read your email, but wanted to take more than my late, before I go to bed time to respond. I will be in touch soon.

    1. We didn't actually go to the movies. We just watched a movie with the girls at our house. My mom got them a couple of movies, so we were watching one of them. It was nice to snuggle up on the couch and laugh together.

  2. Hooray for your fun-filled, tech free day. We also open presents one at a time, youngest to oldest. We get a little confused because my daughter, Sara, is no longer the youngest. Her husband has that spot. I love that your day was filled with wonderful traditions.

  3. Fun to read your Christmas Day list! I remember a Christmas Day of legos with my son many years ago (he's a Marine now).
We TRIED the one at a time present opening, but ended up with our usual crazy confusion. Enchiladas sound yummy...we had lasagna.
